Artist Statement - I picked these 3 pieces to show all the different materials I work in. I would say as an artist, I like to show some type of feeling in my art with different colors or techniques and I think I portrayed that with the works I picked. In this class, I learned many ways to get what I want to communicate across. A big thing I learned in this class that has helped with my art is figure drawing, how to paint with oil (I have never worked with that medium before this year), and the different ways you can be an independent/different artist. I will definitely work to take everything I’ve learned in this class and use it in future art. I hope to continue to grow and become better within my technique.
Personal Symbol Work
For this project , I did collage because I️t is one of my favorite ways of creating art and expressing myself. I incorporated different colors and images that gave me a certain feeling of aesthetic. I used some drawings I had done and cut them out . I️t is basically just expressing things I like and the way I like to get feeling out of art rather than I️t having to mean one certain thing. I️t symbolizes me as a person because I have so many emotions/thoughts I can’t put into words or explain
Scholastic Art Awards
For the scholastic art awards I did another collage , I tried to convey the feelings of sadness and darkness depression makes people feel. The picture cut up in the middle is a drawing a did in pencil and the hand is in charcoal , I️t is supposed to over take the face because depression is kind of something that holds you back and takes away from the real meaning of life , in my opinion. I used cut outs from National Geographic that were interesting to me and also gave the feeling of darkness to get my message across

Trite not trite
The idea of change is not trite but the way people think of it is , it’s not always the normal progression people can see around you, it’s within yourself. Breaking out of something that once held you back , no matter what it is. It has nothing to do with people around you and making others happy. If you truly want to change you have to know what u need to do and want to do it from the bottom of your heart and I think people forget that. I tried to show this with a butterfly ( I know it is kind of trite ) but I decided to actually show the change and I used the Cocoon as something holding the butterfly back , instead of changing it. Each stage it grows more and more colorful and takes steps to get out of it.
Prisma
10 minute challenge -The first word I got was spiritual , this was challenging because I feel like the word can be interpreted in many different ways. I liked the challenge because it forced me to create something that first came to MY mind when I thought of spirituality , not worrying about what other people interpret it as
Final
Overall I am happy with the way my final prisma work turned out , I love working with prisma because whenever I add color to one of my artworks it comes together so well, the use of color to create value and the way I can manipulate the prisma to blend really helped me out in my work. The boot camps we did before this helped me to figure out good techniques for creating texture and overall just gave me some practice going into this , so I felt comfortable.
